MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING: Treatment Integrity (MITI) 4.0 Training

Two-day workshop

Wed 10th & Thu 11th June 2015
Swalec Stadium, Cardiff, Wales, CF11 9XR
Trainers: Terri Moyers (Albuquerque, USA) & Denise Ernst (Portland, Oregon, USA)

Stephen Rollnick & the MI Cardiff team are delighted to welcome Terri, lead developer, and Denise, member of the team of co-developers of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) scale.  MITI was initially developed for research purposes and has been used internationally in studies to asses MI intervention fidelity. It is increasingly used in coaching and supervision to help trainees develop competence in MI.

This 2-day workshop will introduce participants to the MITI 4.0 coding manual. This is a substantial revision to the currently used 3.1.1 version. Participants will learn about the modifications made to both the global ratings and behaviour counts.

This training is appropriate for new MITI learners and seasoned coders who are interested in assessing competence in Motivational Interviewing for training and/ or research purposes. The workshop will also focus on maintaining reliability, supervising a coding lab, and providing feedback to MI learners.

Terri and Denise are both highly experienced trainers and practitioners, and will be happy to discuss broader issues like the place of coding in coaching, supervision, training and peer support.

Terri Moyers is a clinical psychologist & Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, USA. She has trained practitioners & trainers in MI for many years, in many settings. Her research is focused on exploring active mechanisms of change in motivational interviewing and optimal methods for disseminating this method to front-line practitioners. Her current project focuses on training and supervising practitioners in a large, international trial of MI to impact drinking delivered in primary care settings.

Denise Ernst is a psychologist with a MI consulting practice, located in Portland, Oregon, USA.  She has been involved with the development and refinement of the MI family of coding systems for many years.  She currently provides training in MI skills and coding, coaching, and evaluation of skills for research projects, implementation efforts, and individual practitioners.
