Stephen Rollnick, PhD
Two-day training workshop

Friday 15th & Saturday 16th May, 2015
Swalec Stadium, Cardiff, Wales

To attend, please visit our online registration page

This workshop will be of interest to both newcomers and those more familiar with MI, whether you are a specialist in the sexual health field or someone who meets the challenge in everyday clinical work. An enjoyable, safe and stimulating atmosphere for meeting colleagues will be used to pursue two broad aims:

Learning about MI

To familiarise participants with motivational interviewing, its spirit and practice, using the context of sexual health behaviour change as the focus for discussion, demonstration, and practical exercises. This will involve:

  • The presentation of a new 4-process framework for use in diverse settings
  • Clarification about the common and unique elements of MI
  • Rapid engagement: opportunity to observe and practice the skills
  • Opportunity to practice core skills for evoking motivation to change
  • A focus on change language and how it guides the practice of MI

Training & supporting others

To consider how you might support and train others in developing their MI skills in everyday practice. This will involve:

  • Clarifying the challenges of supporting others
  • Addressing the service culture which often needs adjustment for MI to take root
  • Considering your training skills and how you might structure and promote further learning
